In the light of all the good happening. I can feel your death approaching. But I don’t want this to end not as my daughter's life begins. Could you wait? Could you wait? One more year. You lay wasted in these war lands. While I’m waiting for the great rebuild. For something that is stuck behind as a memory of your big fight. Could you wait? Could you wait? One more year. about

“You lay wasted in these war lands, while I’m waiting for the great rebuild”, Vincent Coomans sings in the title track of his first album. The musician is waiting for the great rebuild after an intense period of grief. The fact that grief plays an important part in the life of the artist was already clear after he dropped his first EP “Can’t you see that I slowly distance myself from you”. The EP was received well by the press and the radio. “One Way Love” quickly became a cult hit with over 80k streams on Spotify and “I Will Be Your Man” got featured in the famous radio program “Duyster'' on Studio Brussels.

In “The Great Rebuild” Coomans explores this theme even further. He sings about the impact of grief in his life. The crash, the deconstruction and ultimately the great rebuild towards a new, other version of himself. He shines his light on his fatherhood, the insecurities he has about it. In “Pistol Smoke” the kid leaves his father behind, in “Punchbag” en “Slow Down” the father addresses his child in a subtle, kind way. Vincent Coomans’ music is influenced by indiepop, indiefolk & americana, he swirls from upbeat, groovy tracks with electronic influences (”Desire”, “The Great Rebuild” and “Do You Feel Okay?”) to intimate songs (”Drawing the Lines'', “Drifting Away” and “Must I Always”). He uses a rich sound spectrum with horns, trumpet, clarinet, synths, bas, violin, drums and guitar). Many artists influence Coomans, such as Wilco, The Notwist & Bill Ryder-Jones. In his sound you”ll hear some references to Sufjan Stevens by his choice to let the horns dissolve in vocal harmonies, or the subtle way in which he talks to his loved ones in multiple tracks, such as “Slow Down”. The music becomes quite bombastic sometimes yet it never overshadows the fragile, breathtaking way the musician tells us his story. “The Great Rebuild” is the first album from Vincent Coomans. It’ll be released on January 20th ‘23 through Illuminine Records.
